Lindsay, for driving a car without a license, his' license hav. ing been cancelled at Timaru on Sep, tember 24th last. A fine o f £2, with costs, was imposed on Wm. Hall, for' selling liquor after hours at the Dunedin Hotel. A similar penalty was im. posed on E. F. H. Chisnall for a similar offence at Pukekura, also on Albert Hendrickson, for a similar offence at Harihari Hotel. Sixteen persbn s were charged with having been illegally on hotel premises, fines of 10s with cos's being imposed on three, and of 5s with costs on each of the remainder.

Miller (secretary), T. Cumming, C. Kelleher, G. Bryant, and W. J. Richards. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs T. Seddon and J. Taylor. It was decided to write to Hospital Board, asking that all future and immediate requirements of furnish, ings and supplies should be allowed to be tendered for by local tradesmen, and consideration be given t 0 time
on contracts. With regard to the Cor. bnatfhn arrangements, four members were elected to confer with the Borough Council Coronation Committee and Rugby Union, at a special meeting. It was resolved fo write to the Hokitika Harbour Board, asking what steps were being taken for protection from river erosion, as the business people viewed with. the threat, ening encroachment of the sea. The Railway Department wrote, stalling that authority had been given for a four.weeks’ trial, to commence on Fri. day, April 30th, of a train leaving Ross at 6 p.m., and Hokitika at 10.40 p.m., on return for the Friday late nightfc. It was resolved to write the farmers’" organisation in South West, land, asking their support for an improved marl and telephone service to South Westland. It was reported that as a result of an application! by the Association, to the Borough Council, the latter body had decided to carry out street-cleaning in the main streets on Mondays and Fridays, instead of on b’ once a week, for the time being. Four new financial member s were elected to the Association. The matter of Hiner- ; ant traders was discussed and it was resolved to bring the matter before the Borough Council. At the Businessmen’s Association meeting last night, the local Housing Committee attended to seek _ support for a housing scheme in Hokitika, giv- , Ing a statement of what had so far , been done in the matter.
