BRUNNER NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent-) The monthly meeting of thp Brunner branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was held in the Library, Walls, nd on Wednesday, Mr W. Purdy preid'mg over a good attendance. The president gave a review of the Labour Party Conference he attended in WeiI ng ton. Wallsend and Dobson mines both worked full time this week, also the previous week. Miss U. Fentiman, who has been an nmate of the Grey Hospital for some time, has returned home, and is much improved in health. Captain Wyatt-, who has been attend, ng the Salvation Army Congress, has eturned to Taylorville. Miss Jean Fentiman has entered the Grey Hospital for treatment. The whist drive held in Taylorville School wa s won by Mrs W. Chetwynd, with Mr M. Hall second.

At a meeting of tlhe Women’s Institute, Mrs W. Gutberlet was unanimous. |ly appointed secretary, Mrs J. Devlin (treasurer, and Mesdames E. Hopkins and M. Bennie Vice-Presidents.’ Mrs Hopkins, on behalf of the members, presented Miss" Smeatou, president, With a bouquet as a token of appreciation for services rendered tlo the Institute. Miss Smeaton said it was a beautiful gesture and she appreciated it. veiy mueh. She -would take the opportunity, on behalf of the members, of presenting to the retiring secretary and treasurer, Mesdames E. Tennent nd H. Johnson a beautiful bouquet each, in appreciation of their services to the. Institute. Both suitably res. ponded. It was resolved tSiat the bene. Volent fund be restricted to members, and that the onus be on the person requiring assistance to make application to the secretary. It was decided that new curtains and a table cover be pur. chased to add to the comfort of tbe meeting room, also that for outings to neighbouring Institutes to attend birthday celebrations, half of the expense be paid by the Institute.
