Young Thieves

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 22. Before passing sentence of two years’ detention in a Borstal institution on Leslie Snow, 17, and John Noble Stevens. 20. ' on numerous clmrges of theft at Auckland and Hamilton, Mr Leslie Callan remarked that the story told by the accused was that a mysterious lady was the inspiring force. She was going to ■Wellington with them and they would there sell goods. She was said to have come into Snow’s- room and tried clothing on, remarking that it was a pretty good selection. “Am I to believe that?’’ asked His Honor. Defending counsel: I can only say what they told me and the police. Mr Meredith, for the Crown, said a constable had approached “the lady who was a girl of fourteen. His Honor remarked that the numerous offences distributed over two months, had been performed with considerable deliberation, and in some instances the manner was professional. WOMAN’S TRIAL. LOS ANGELES, April 21. Clark Gable appeared in the Court at the opening of the .trial of Mis Norton, for alleged extortion, and heard her attorney contend she is sincere, and announce the- intention of showing a remarkable resemblance of her child to Gable, who she claims is the father. Gable then took the stand and curtly denied any acquaintance of her. There was' a sensation at his entrance to the Court. She cried repeatedly, “That’s him!”
