(Our Own Correspondent). Mr Smythe, of the Health Department. Greymouth, was a visitor to the township on Tuesday. Mr J. Jackson, who has been visiting here, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs H. Dunshea who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch, has returned. Mr S. P. Williams, who has been visiting Wellington, has returned. Mr L. W.’Stephens (Director, School of Mines, Reefton) paid a visit to iWaiuta on Tuesday. Mr R. Hempseed senr., xvlio has been spending an extended holiday in Tasmania, has returned. Mr Basil Hempseed is spending a holiday in Wellington. Mesdames G. Ward, J. Connors and D. Robertson wer e visitors to Greymouth during the week. Mr and Mrs R. Morrisey and family, who have been visiting Christchurch, have returned. A meeting was held in the Miners’ Hall on Sunday morning, when it was decided to form a branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. Mr J. Cargill, a member of the Auckland Central Branch, was voted to the chair. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr D. Shannahan; vice-pre-sident. Mr W. Christian; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr Ivan Wilson; committee, Messrs J. Rodden, W. Hynes. F. Thompson, L. Hunt and two to' be’ appointed at the next general meeting of the Union. It is hoped that the branch will be in a position to raise a considerable amount of finance to-

wards the fighting- fund for the next general election, which will be the most momentous in the party’s historyAfter discussing several matters, the meeting adjourned until after the next general meeting of the Union. A vote of thanks to Mr J. Cargill for presiding was carried by acclamation. Reefton seniors met the local side' on the Recreation Ground on Saturday in the opening game in the League competition. Waiuta defeated the visitors by 19 points to 10 aftei a hard-fought and interesting game. Th-e

standard of play for the opening game I was of a high order. Reef ton led o to nil at half-time, but the weight of, th P local pack told its tale in he second spell. The Waiuta Debating Club held an enjoyable social evening in the Clubrooms on Saturday evening last.
