AUCKLAND. April 21. A subscription list has been opened at the Town Hall by the Mayor of Auckland (Mr Ernest Davis), on behalf of the King George V. National Memorial Fund. The list is inaugurated by a number of substantial contributions, totalling £3071. which were the result of a personal canvass by the Mayor, covering a period of two days. These contributions include £lOOO from the Auckland Savings Bank and £5OO from the Auckland Racing Chib. BLENHEIM, April 21. Believed to be Blenheim’s oldest hospital, and certainly one of the oldest dwellings in the district, a sevenroomed wooden house in Maxwell road, owned and occupied by Air William Ramsay, was extensively damaged by fire shortly before mid-day to-day. Nearly 80 years of age, timber in the main portion of the building was as dry as tindtr. When Air Ramsay left the house about a quarter of an hour before, everything was in order and there was no fire burning in the stove.
