MUNICIPAL BAND
ANNUAL MEETING. Mr J-\S- Robertson (president) occupied the chair at the annual meeting of the Municipal Band last, evening when a large number of members were presentThe annual report (as published) was adopted. The balance sheet, showing receipts £565 15s 4d (including balance at 31/3/36 £126 3s, jion- members’ subscriptions £95 3s, borough subsidy £6O, engagements £46 13s 6d), and expenditure £259 14s 7d (including conductor Is salary £Bl, piano £35, concerts £25 2s secretary’s honorarium £24 16s Oil, balance at bank £lO5 Us 5d and in Post Office 9s 4d) was read- The statement. of assets was as follows: Instruments £540, band hall £lBO, uni forms £234, music £69, furniture and fittings £22 10s, piano and crockery £53 (less old piano written off £l3), balance at bank £lO5 Us sd, balance in Post Office 9s 4d; total £ll9l 10s 9d- Liabilities were nil. The balance sheet was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —
Patron: Mr W- Meldrum. President: Mr'J- S- Robertson (reelected). Vice-presidents: As last year, wd-h the addition of Mr W- M. StewartConductor: Mr G- Kerr (re-elected)-Mr Kerr said that he would like to see an outside man Mr W- Garth said that Mr Kerr had given satisfactorv service, and if the members rallied ■ round he could soon bring the band up to contest stand ard- . .
Several members spoke appreciatively of Mr Kerr’s work, and appealed to members to give Mr Kerr more support and co-operation. Mr J- Henderson was re-elected secretary, and Mr H- Leach assistantsecretary. Mr W. Garth was re-elected treasurer, and Mr T- Lim was elected band sergeant. Mr A- Cornell was elected librarian, and Mr E- Goodall band poralThe position of drum major was held overMr W- Garth was re-elected custodian. Mr R- Jackson was elected masterThe following committee were elected: Messrs E- V- Ellery, J- Carruthers, p. Griffin, and J- ContessaOn the suggestioir of Mr Lim, it was decided to set up a social comm ttee to conduct euchres and dances during the winter, the following being elected: Messrs J- Phibbs, E- Carruthers, T- Lim, 11. Eatwell, II- Leach, and DHaglund. . After the meeting, the annual social evening was held, when the usual toast list was enthusiastically honoured. Items were given by Miss 1- Turner, Messrs W- Baird and J. 'Carruthers (songs), Miss G- Wallwotk, Mr M • Stolz (recitations), Mr W- Stolz (piano accordeon). The accompanists were Miss V- Millar and Mr W- StolzIn appreciation of their services to the band, Messrs G- Kerr (conductor) and A- Cornell (librarian), were presented with smokers’ outfits. In making the presentations, the president referred in complimentary terms to the services of the recipients.
