OREPUKI SHALE OIL

GOVERNMENT ASKED TO INVESTIGATE. INVERCARGILL, March 5. A request for a “fair and square” in. lestigation into the resources of the Orepuki Shale works was made to the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon D. G. Sullivan, to-day by repre. sentatives of the Orepuki Progress League. The works have been closed for 30 years, and from time to time, reports have been obtained, but according to the deputation these' reports have not been satisfactory. One speaker claimed that iti was estimated that there was about a million tons of shale for treatment. The Minister, in reply, said that the Departments of Alines and of Indus, tries and Commerce would try to es. timate if the reopening of the works would be an economic proposition or not.
