WESTPORT NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent). A. & P. Show: ■WESTPORT, March 7. The Buller A. & P. Association’s annual show opened on Friday in beautiful weather, amd keen interest was taken in the judging of the various classes. The show this year was giv. en excellent support by exhibitors and from every viewpoint reached the high standard of former years. The Horse Cup was won by Mr Herb. Mitchell, who was well represented in tnat par. ticular section. Mr H. Carey showed the champion Jersey cow, and Mr D. Kerr the champion Jersey bull. The Cattle Cup wa s won by Mr H. V. Palmer, and the- O’Connor Institute captured the Jersey Cup. The Lister Cup, awarded for the best e ft lf in the show, was won by the O’Connor Institution also. Mr H. Carey took the thop'hy ’onated by Fertilisers Ltd., with a Jersey cow. The Wood Cup. in the pis' section, was won by Carter Bros., and Mr s 11. J. Martin captured the Neill Rose Bowl in the cooking section. Splendid exhibits were benched in the poultry section, the young birds especially being a good even lot. Considering the unfavour, able weather of late, the display of flowers and vegetables was highly creditable-, and the judge, Mr G. Munroe. expressed surprise at. their allround merit. The industrial, juvenile and other sections were also well supported. The Association's annual' banquet took place al the Elite Tea Rooms last evening, and proved a highly successful affair. Mr M. Durkin occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members and visitors. Mr J. Stephenson, of the Agricultural Department was eni trust, ed with the main toast of the evening. '‘The Buller A. & P. Association”. He commended that body on the good- that was being achieved in the interests ot farming, and congratulated the members on the success of the show. Messrs M. Durkin and P. Roselli ice* ponded. “The Judges,” was ably proposed: by Mr E„ Skill on and was replied to by Messrs James Hunt (Horses), D. Ramsay (Cattle), A. Wilkie (Pigs). H. J. 'Fetch (Butter). Mr F. Knight responded on belhalf of the poultry judge (Mr E. Humphries). After the presentation of the trophies, the “Ladies” and “The Press” were honoured. A good will toast -was proposed by Mr Hunt, Horse Judge, and was responded to by Messrs M. Durkin, H, Carey, Roselli, E. Skilton, J. H. Enright and J, B. Burley. (

Buller Medical Association: Mr R. Higman was in the chair at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Buller Medical Association, held last evening. Delegates present were A Watlhev, W Bird. H. Trcgurtha, R. McGregor; W. ’ O’Neill, J. Fairbairn and W. Ellison (Secretary). _ The chairman reporting in connee tion with a deputation to the Hospital Board regarding expenses incurred by members of the Association who were taken ill whilst away from the district and entered an outside hospital, men, tioned' that the interview was not. very successful. . , . After discussion, it was decided again approach the Board in connee tion with the matter, on the motion ot Messrs Wa'they and O’Neill. The Friendly Societies Dispensary advised a decrease in. the charge for drugs, owing to the introduction of new system of costing. It was decided to take no aeaon m connection with a communication from the Inangahua Medical Association .regarding Berlin’s Camp, whicli was visaed by Doctors Wicken (Reefron) and Thompson (Westport) periodica - The Secretary was authorised to nav all accounts and to prepare the first quarterly cash statement as ”i“ President N.Z.W.U. advised that arrangements would be’ made for the deduction o± monthly medical .subscripts,ns from pay dockets, in the near future.
