NEWS FROM PITCAIRN ISLAND.

(Received! March 7., 7.15 p.m.) BALBOA. March' 6.

A letter has just been received here from the Chief Magistrate, Rich, and Christian, a descendant of Fletcher Christian, who stated that the American schooner-yaclht, the “Yankee,” arrived at Pitcairn Island early in February with all . aboard, except one, poisoned by fish, and* all nearly helpless. The “Yankee” had sailed from Gloucester, in Massachusetts, on a world cruise. (She was manned by sixteen college boys, an® was com. manded by Irving Johnson, whose wife and another woman also -.were aboard. The Pitcairn Islanders were compelled to -carry the ashore. Tlhey had eaten fish which they had caught. While waiting for the men to reeuper. ate, the “Yankee” was used by’ the Pitcairn Islariid'ers to carry wood from Henderson Island. - All have recovered. The “Yankee was sailing for New- Zealand* on February 14th.
