A London cablegram records the death of Bishop Frodsham.

Mrs P. Callan and Mrs W. Smyth returned on Saturday from Christ, church.

Deputy-Superintendent A. J. White, Secretary J. G. Walton, and Fireman G. Batty (delegate), left on Saturday to attend the annual Fire Brigades ’ demonstration and conference being held in Nelsfon.

There is little improvement in tihe condition of Mr A. Ogilvie, who re ceived a fracture of the skull, while at work on the Cobden Hill road, on Thursday, and was admitted to the Grey Hospital.

Mr R. T. C. Roberts, acting-Super-intending Telegraph Engineer, Christ, church, who recently succeeded Mr J. C. Fairbairn, will retire from . the service at the end of the month after 40 years’ service. Mr Roberts was formerly stationed in Greymouth.

Miss J. Burrows, who has resigned from the nursing staff of the Grey Hospital, was entertained, on the eve of her departure, at a kitchen after, moon in the Nurses’ Home, and was the recipient' of numerous gifts. The nursing -staff provided a delicious afternoon tea.

A London cable states that .the Duchess of Northumberland . has been appointed Queen Elizabeth’s Mistress of Robes and thus carries her jesty’s train at the Coronation. RearAdmiral -Sir Basil Brooke has been appointed Treasurer of the Queen’s Household.

Mrs W. Kells, who leaves to-day on an extended visit to Australia, was farewelled during the week-end by Cobden sporting bodies, every organisation in the district being represented. Numerous speakers made eulogis. tie reference -to Mrs Kells’ work for the community generally, and: the hope was expressed t!h*at her voyage -and holiday would be both happy, and beneficial. The presentation of a companion set,'was made as a small token of- the esteem in which Mrs Kells was held. Mr. Kells suitably replied'. Items Were given by Mrs Kells, Messrs Swijctman, Dressy, Walker, Phelan, Crooks, Barlow, Frame and! Cor. liss, and the gathering concluded with the singing o f “Auld Lang Syne” aud cheers for Airs Kells.

The death took place early this morning, at the Grey Hospital, of Mr Henry Brown, of Alexander Street, at the age of 62 years... Deceased was a naltivef of Gpeymoutih', and was pre. deceaseld' about fifteen years ago by his wife. In his early manhood, deceased took a prominent part in sport, ing activities, being a ,goocj runner, and in hi s day the finest Rugby halfback to the district. He served in the South African War. For a lengthy perilo® h e was a member of rhe Grey, mouth Fire Brigade. The late Mr Brown, for many years, was an em. ploye'e of tlhe .late Mr Felix Campbell anidi in later .years had been a water, side worken . He was generally esteemed,’ being of a genial nature. He is survived bv a brother, -Mr Archibald Brown (Murray Street), a sister, Mr§ M. Coumbe (Alexander Street), two sons, Michael and Thomas, an® three daughters, Misses Bridget. Nancy and Mollie Brown, all of Greymouth.
