Won by Mutable PAMELUS BEATS GOLD ROD. (Received March 7, 6.30' p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 7. The Victoria Racing’s Club’s autumn meeting concluded on Saturday at Flemington. The weather was threatening, and there was a lair attendance. The going was hpld-ng. Beechwood made amends for his recent failure by a narrow win in the Leonard Stakes. Namaki'a was nevm dangerous. Pamelas finished brilliantly to beat ,the pace-maker Gold Rod m the Lloyd Stakes. Ptwnelus now has two wins and four seconds in his last six starts. He is a probable visitor to Randwick at Easter. Young Idea was a moderate third, while Gay Blonde was outclassed. Bonnierollox, in his first start for Mr Murphy, lost his rider at the third fence in. the Steeplechase, which was won comfortably by Seven Hills. Elegance Bhoy and Blackmail fell. 1 The extreme outsider, Mutable, gained a surprise win in the Australian! Cup. He has a consistent record this season, .but the distance was considered beyond him. He finished brilliantly to down Pooley Bridge in the last few strides. Demotic just beat Hot Shot for place honours. Cuddle weakened, as also di'd Amalia and Royal Messenger. The winner’s owner and trainer, W. Small, was formerly’ a well-known jockey. The time was onlyhalf a second outside of therrecord. The consistent Le Baron led always in the Gibson-Carmichael Stakes, and now has four wins and a second in his last .seven starts Dick Devon finished strongly to beat Dunloe and the pace-maker. In a good fin'sh, Mutable outstayed his rivals to win by’ half a length, with two and a hall' lengths between second and third. Hot Shot was fourth. Cuddle and Magnum Bonum were the last two.
