TARANAKI ACCIDENTS
MAN FALLS OVER CLIFF Another’s Lost Memory (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 4. Descending the brink of a cliff face at Patea, in search of a tyre winch had been discarded in error, William Lacey, a carpenter, was swept from his hold on a rope by a fall, of earth, and he fell over a hundred feet to the beach, where he was covered with debris. He was, buried in the debris. Several men released Lacey, and a doctor was lowered down the cliff by a rope to render assistance. Twenty men worked for two hours in hauling the injured man up the cliff on a motor-car cushion, and he was taken to hospital. Lacey suffered head injuries _ and abrasions, but the extent of his injuries was not known to-night. Found lying injured on the roadside at Mount Messenger this evening, N. A. E. Kelly, canvassei, of Lyall Bay, Wellington, was admitted to New Plymouth Hospital to-night, suffering from abrasions and probably a fractured rib.
Though Kelly is known to have been canvassing the district in a motorcar, the men who found him saw no trace of the car at Mount Messenger, and Kelly was unable to give any account of how he received his injuries.
