REEFTON NOTES
(Onr Own Correspondent;. REEFTON, March 3. The death look place nt Beef ton Hospital last night of Mrs Myra Catherine Chandler, wife of Mi' Russell Chandler, Reefton, in her 20th year. Deceased was universally respected. She had been, in hospital ioi two months. The late Mrs Chandlei, who had been married less, than a year, was the daughter of Mr Archie Clark, of>, Kumara, formerly of Reefton, and was a native ot this distiiet. General sympathy will be extended to her husband and relatives. She is survived by her mother and father, thiee sisters and two brothers. The intei inent will take place to-morrow, leaving the residence of Mr Charles Chandler at 2 p.m. for the Suburban Cemetery. Mesdames Stallard and C'ereseto and Miss Hampson left this morning fm Westport, and will be. the guests ot the Ladies’ Croquet Club. A lean from the Reefton Croquet Club goes to Westport to-morrow to try conclusions with the club there. ' * The monthly meeting of the Council of the Reefton School of Mines was held last evening, there being present Messrs F S Hayes (chairman), W. F. Archer, J. Noble, C. J. Willis, C. Buist, James Patterson, R. Alborn. and T. S, Pattensen (secretary)- Ajpologies were received for the absence of Messrs J. B. Auld, J. W. Patterson and A. Saunders. Mr Hayes welcomed the new members, Messrs Willis and Alborn and expressed the hope that their presence would be of advantage to. the School and of pleasure to themselves. A letter from the Mines Department noted the request made for text books, theodolite, etc. The Director reported for the month: It is too early yet to state definitely the numbers that will be attending the various classes, but the enrolments at Reefton, Waiuta and Wallsend have been satisfactory. Laboratory work: The following has been done: Quartz samples for gold and silver 72 (26 free), alluvial 1/, coal dust analysis 6, proximate coal analysis 1, bullion assay 1, on hand 12;? total 109. Minor repairs to tre build--ing are required and the Director suggested that one or more members of the Council be appointed to look into and approve of these being made. A new set of weights ranging from 1000 gains to 1 grain are required for the pulp balance. The newly-appointed laboratory assistant has been giving every satisfaction. It was decided that the secretary and president be a committee to consider the necessary repairs and have same done, and also to make inquiries and furnish a statemen! of the school’s possible requirements for the year. Accounts amounting to £6l 9s 8d were passed for payment
