A cablegram from Sydney announced the death of! Major-General J. M. Antill, C. 8., C.M.G., aged 51 years. He was a professional soldier, and had seen service in India, South Africa, Gallipoli, and France. Word was received at Wellington yesterday of the sudden death of Colonel G. F. 0. Campbell, Controller and Auditor-General. His death occurred at his son’s residence, at, Stoke, Nelson. He was 79 years of age.—Press Assn.

Mr F. J. T. Grigg, Government analyst for Canterbury and Westland, returned on Tuesday by the Arana, from London. Mr Grigg has been on special leave to make investigations on behalf of the Government, in Great Britain and on the Continent, in various chemical matters, including the organisation of Government chemical services.
