GENERAL DECLINE Addington Market (Our Own Correspondent). CHRISTCHURCH, March 3. At Addington market, to-day, the store sheep yarding was 3000 to 4000 less than last week. Store lambs were in slightly better demand, showing a recovery of Is per head. Rape lambs showed an unexpected sharp drop- in line values-. Passings were frequent in the early stages of the sale. ' The market showed a decline on late rates.

■Tliere was a considerably smaller offering of fat lambs. The quality was indifferent. Values -were fully up to the schedule, with keen competition from the butchers for prime heavy •weights. Extra heavy prime lambs .sold to. 34s lOd, prime heavy 29s to 31s 6d, prime ’medium 26s 6d to 28s Gd, ordinary 24s to 265, light from 23s Gd. There was a smaller offering of mutton, a total of 4300. Ewes predominated. There was a good showing of prime quality. Values were easier in all grades, except for the best prime lots. Ewes were most affected by the lower basis. Exporters were less keen, purchasing less than their usual quota. Butchers procured all the wethers offering. Slightly more fat cattle were offered, a total of 460. There was a good showing of steers and heifers included. The market opened on slightly tin easier basis, with a further weakening as the sale progressed. There was an average drop of 15s per head on last. sale. The decline affected all classes. It was a hard sale towards the closing stages!.

There was another small supply of porkers. The market, was firm at the commencement, but later entries increased fhe yarding, when values eased back, especially- over the concluding pens. Baeoners were firm for prime heavy weights. Others showed a slight easing. Porkers fetched 33s 6d to 38s 6d, heavy 39s 6d to 47s Gd, extra heavy to 51s 6d; baeoners 47s fid to 54s 6d, medium 57s fid to 64s Cd, heavy £3 15s 6d. to. £4 19s. fid.
