UNITED MINE WORKERS

RESOLUTIONS OF NATIONAL COUNCIL. The following resolutions were passed by the National Council of the United Mine Workers of New Zealand at its annual meeting held on the 4th, sth and 6th November: “The National Council of the United Mine Workers of New Zeal.iml declares itself in favour of the holding of an all-in trade union conference to discuss the formation of a national industrial organisation for New Zealand. The, Miners’- Council calls upon the Alliance of Labour to convene such a conference. If the Alliance of Labour does not. take the initiative in this matter, the Miners’ Council will itself convene the conference.” “The Miners’ Council expresses its heartiest sympathy with the Spanish People’s Government- in its fight against fascism. The Council congratulates the Waterside. Workers’ Federation for its generous donation- to help the Spanish Government, and decides to contribute £lO for the same purpose and to advise the miners' branches to also contribute. The Council calls upon the Labour Party to organise a national fund for the support of the Spanish people.”

The Ngeikawau Miners’ Union passed the following resolution “That th« Government of New Zealand be urged to bring to the notice of the British Government the desire of the workers for that Government to lift th? embargo on the export of arms to the legitimate constitutional Government of Spain.” The Ngakawau Union has voted £5 to be forwarded for the purpose of assisting the Government of Spain.
