ABORTION EVIL
In New Zealand VERY WIDESRPHAD SAYS DOCTOR (Per ipress Association). AUCKLAND October 22. “We have received evidence to show that the practice of abortion is very w-idespread throughout all classes of the community,” said Dr. T. F. Corkill, of Wellington, aeting-C’hairman of the committee set up under the authority of the Minister of Health, to consider the problem. The committee sat in camera, ■ today, at. the Auckland Hospital Board iftom's, but Dr. Corkill issued a statement later. The m'embers will leave, this evening, for Wellington. The committee had no general statement to make at present. Dr Corkill said, but one point had been impressed on members, namely, the general lack of appreciation of the danger of the induction of abortion, nof only to the immediate life of the patient, but also to subsequent health. “It is desirable that as much publicity as possible should be given to this danger, because women’s organiation have told us that far 100 many women undertake an operation, without a full realisation of the danger involved. Medical witnesses have also impressed on us their experience of the evils which have resulted from the practice.” Evidence on similar linos was given at Auckland, to-day.
