REEFTON NOTES

(Ou r Own Correspondent). REEFTON, October 22. What might have proved a serious accident when A. J. Griffin was exercising his horses on the racecourse yesterday morning, a sheep ran in front of the racehorse, Delium, and brought the horse down. Fortunately neither horse nor rider received any injury the horse being caught after careering a couple of circuits of the course. It should be a warning to the Reefton Jockey Club to have the sheep securely fenced' on the inside of the course, and not running at large as is the custom now, while horses are exercising, otherwise a serious accident may occur

The bowling season will be opened on Alonday afternoon next, at 2.30, The Alisses Joyce and Joan Heslop left by this morning’s express for Christchurch, -where they will reside in future.

The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Jockey Club took place last evening. The Racing Conference advised Mr J. B. Auld had been elected as delegate to the Racing Conference, and the District Committee, vice Mr E. W. Spencer. A programme for the mid-Summer m’eeting, with stakes totalling £1,330 (an increase of £l3O on last year) was approved. Mr F. W. Seawright was appointed as Tot'alisator Steward, and Messrs J. Noble, W. J. Barry and A. M. Carroll as Time-keepers. It was decided to engage Mr H. D, James to conduct the totalisator,
