Harris, of Ngatitama Street, had an unenviable experience when the petrol and the curtain mysteriously caught fire. As the-curtains wtyro being rubbed in the benzine, a fairly loud roar was heard by Mrs Harris, who thought that it was a rumble preceding an earthquake. It was then seen that the basin and curtains were on fire, flames and smoke filling the scullery. She hurriedly left the room to obtain a stick, with which she imbed the blazing basin outside. 'I lie flames were ten feet in height. How the benzine caught fire is a mystery, as there was no naked flame in the vicinity.
