PASSENGER BAN
ON MATSON LINE By N.Z. and Australia (Aus & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received October 22 at 10 p.m.) LONDON, October 22. The “Sun” Sydney representative hero understands that decisions are imminent in Canberra and Wellington regarding the restriction of shipping facilities as between Australia and New Zealand to British ships. It is learned that “enabling” legislation is contemplated, under which, if the United States continues to prohibit British ships from carrying passengers between Honolulu and San Francisco, and between American mainland ports, immediate action can be taken to give British ships the monopoly of the passenger traffic between Australia and New Zealaud. THE WORD FROM LONDON AWAITED. SYDNEY, October 22. The “Sun’s” Canberra correspondent questioned the Federal AttorneyGeneral, Mr Menzies, regarding the London report that restrictions are imminent upon foreign shipping in New Zealand and Australia. Air Alenzies said that the Commonwealth Government is at present waiting on a report from the Imperial Shipping Committee-, which recently inquired into the whole question of Pacific shipping. That report is now being drafted.
