HOKITIKA NOTES

(Ou r Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, October 22. M r Tassel, .Supervisor at the Hokitika Post. Office for the past two years, has been transferred to Greymouth, and will be succeeded by Mr J. Teller, of the local staff. Mr 11. Mayer, of the clerical staff of Road Services, Ltd. (formerly Newman’s Motors, Ltd.) left this morning on transfer to head office at Low er Hutt. Wellington. Guests at Keller’s Hotel include: Mr J. R. Shurley (Nelson), Mr W. G. M. Spong (Christchurch), Mr W. E. Cockroft (Christchurch). The erection of the pumping engine for the Borough waterworks is now nearing completion, and the laying of the necessary pipe-lines to connect with the Borough mains and the reservoir is also well under way, and should be completed at an early date. The water in fhe reservoir of late has been keeping up well, averaging a depth of seven feet.

On Sunday the first motor-cycle trial from Christchurch to the West Coast will begin. The first rider to leave Christchurch will carry a letter of greeting from the Mayor (Mr J. W. Beanland), to the Mayor of Ho kitika (Mr G. A. Perry). The Canter bury Auto-Cycle Club is organising the trial, and asked the Mayor of Christchurch to write the letter, to mark its riders’ visit to the Coast. The Club Captain. Mr A. Laurenson, will carry the message, leaving Christchurch at S a.m. He. will be followed at intervals by twenty-three other m'ofor-eyel-ists. On Monday morning, it is hoped that the visitors will be able to inspect the Rimu gold dredge, prior to returning to Christchurch.
