DIAMOND JUBILEE. The Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Greymouth Main School. .18761936. wifi coinmcnce to-day,, and will conclude on Safurday. Several wellknown former identities have arrived from various parts of New Zealand, some of fheni original pupils, to attend the ce'ebrations. The programme, for the celebrations is as follows:— To-day (Thursday): 1.30 p.m. —General procession from Boundary Street through the main streets t-> the school; official opening of the earn - val bv H's Wotship the Mayor (Mr \V. Meidrnm). S p.m.—Children’s concert and el'vie 'weleomei in the Town Hal'; grand carnival bal'l in Schaef’s To-nrorrow (Friday): 2.45 p.m. —Reunion afternoon tea til school for pup'ls prior Io 1920; side-shows, etc.: S p.m, -■ (.'ontf'until ion of carnival at school. Saturday. October 2l: 1.15 p.m. — Children’s sports in school grounds: a’de-shows. etc. 7.30 p.m—-Gr:i"' torchlight procession from Boundar" Street, through the town tn th school; continuation of the, earniv’ 830 'p.m.—Entertainment at tlm scho-/'.. Tie celebrations will be opened today bv Hi.s AVorship the Mayor (Mr W. Meidrnm). Messrs G. E. Perkins. J. Tennent, and others will also briefly address the gathering. Apologies for unavoidable absence have been rece \- cd from Mr .1. O’Brien, M.P.. ami Hon. .1. Gooda.'l, AI.L.C. The spoek'l nppeal for a fund to. establish an assembly hall has received support from manv absenl pupils. Ailetnoon li.i rooms will be conducted by a. ladies' com mitt ee. Air G. E. Perkins has donated Iwo silver cups for competition at the eluldren’s s|>o,rts on the Recreation Ground on Saturday, one to be; for senior boys 100yds, and one for senior giDs 75yds race. In order to got the procession away s-trictly on time;, all partie.'pants are asked to co-operate by being in place early. Shbul'd the wdather prove unfavourable, the opening ceremony wi'l be held at 2 p.m. in the school bui'ding. The children's exhibits will then bv.' held on Saturday afternoon in connection with the. sports. The groumls have been las4efmly decorated with bunting and flags, anil prcscnited a very attractive appealmice last evening -when under the illuniinatf.on of miany coloured electric lamps.
