The most vita 1 *'■■■' affecting the centre was tin- af(l at’on of fhe new Mari-t Old B'W Club. The chib was formed during th< season, and had a strong opening membership. Ow ng to insufficient time they held only one carnival, but ths met with eons’derab'e success. We take ties opportunity of extending a welcome to the new club, and wi-1 them every success in the! future. The John Burns Cup was retained by Westport. Challenges were accepted from the Cobden and Reefton c'ubs and two good contests were held. Owing to unsettled weather conditions towards the close of the season, the Grey Club had to abandon their hope of making a challenge. A visit, was made to Reef ton by several! local swimmers, and a very good carnival was staged by the country club. Wo again congratulate Reefton on their live and enthusiastic club, Hokitika and Ross almost failed I<’ function, although one carnival was held at Hokitika. Owing to some misunderstanding no Ctreymouth swimmers made the-' trip, and as some were expected, and Hokitika were depending on them, the carnival wits rath ‘i a faPure. We offer congratulations to .Mr U M. Robertson, of Westport, on his success in the Annette Keßiernian Cup race at the New Zealand championships. Mi' Robertson has competed with credit for several years, and his victon- this year was well deserved. The'Went Coast champion-hips were offered to Hokitika, but they were unable to (“irry them, and thev wer?' dee’di'J af th" Greymouth baths. The Cobden and Grey clubs combine.,l in the organisation, and a splendid mealing resulted. For the first time on the West Coast the championships were broadcas'ted, and our lhanka are due 1 1 Station 3ZB and to Mr M. 1?. third for h's efforts ; n making the arrange meats. Mr Bunt is afso- to be congratulated on bis very able announcing. which was favourably commented on by a great many listeners.
