(Ott r Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, October 20. The death of an old and respected resident of South Westland took place at West land Hospital on Saturday when Mrs Elizabeth Mulvaney passed away. Deceased was a native of Londonderry, Donegal, Ireland, aged 72 years. Deceased, who lost, her husband, a well-known South Westland settler, many years ago, had resided for 25 years in New Zealand. She leaves a family of four daughters' (Mrs. Kidd, Mrs Quinn, Mrs Leo Had* dock, of South Westland, and Mrs G. Muir, of Ross), and three sons (John, James and Patrick, all of South Westland). The funeral took place to Ross cemetery yesterday and was attended by a large number of mouncrs. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Ross, by the Rev. Father Browne, assisted by the Rev. Father Quinn, who also conducted the service at the graveside. At the concluding meeting of the "Westland Rugby Sub-Union a subcommittee consisting of Messrs Harper and Stopforth were appointed to approach the Borough Council regarding the purchase of a motor mower to improve the playing area of Cass Square for which purpose the Sub-Union would ear-mark the sum of £2O.
There was a fresh in the Hokitika River to-day, following rain overnight. Measures'to deal with the dumping of sawdust in rivers in Westland are promised by the Minister of Marino in reply to the protest mane by local whitebait fishermen. The Minister said tne Department for some time past had been taking every precaution to deal with the menace. A suggestion had been put forward for the appointment of honorary rangers, but the Department did not desire the appointment of active fishermen as rangers. However, the position had not improved and the appointments would be made.

Samson, W. Cropp, G. Gilchrist W. Eastgate, and the secretary (R. Paterson). Mr A C. Armstrong’s resignation from the. executive was accepted with regret. The Gisborne branch forwarded a transfer form for A. L. Bossin. The secretary of Flock House wrote regarding a boy who had broken his apprenticeship agreement. The Hunter Soldiers' Assistance Trust Fund advised it was making a grant for children of a deceased soldier. The financial membership ladder showed Hokitika 24th on the list with a membership of 155. Headquarters advised that the Canteen grants for July and August amounting to £l2, had been remitted. Headquarters forwarded a grant from the Anzac Stamp Commemoration fund for a case of distress. New members proposed and elected were Messrs N. L. Christiansen, T. W. Deering, R. Baird, H. S. Bright, J. Evans. At Arahura live stock sale yesterday 127 fat cattle were offered. Prices were lower by about 20s per head as compared with the previous sale; the range per 100 lbs being good ox 34s to 35s (id. some eases more, prime, heifer 33s 6d to 34s Gd, whilst cows of which there was a good percentage, met with a good clearance at about 20s Gd per 1001 bs.
