At the last sitting of the Arbitration Court held in Reefton on October 9 last, an application -was heard from the Inangahua Miners’ Union on behalf of the employees working for the above-named company, for the working hours to be reduced from 44 per week to 40 per week. Advice has just come to ham! that the Arbitration Court has awarded the 40 working hours per week with an order that the rates of pay should be increased, to correspondent with the shorter‘hours worked. Mitson and Co., secretaries of the Waitahu Gold Mining Co., Ltd., report that the final wash-up of No. 9 paddock resulted in a further 50ozs for 27 shifts of 8 hours each. The previous wash-up was October 3. 1936. This return makes the total gold won from this paddock 1470zs (idwts. Concurrently with No. 9 paddock, elevating operations have been conducted alongside Redman’s Creek, and a partial wash-up last Saturday resulted in 14ozs 2 dwts; tms small pacidock will be completed this ■week while the next paddock is being stripped.
