• GREYMOUTH SECTION. At a meeting of the Greyinputh section of the, New Zealand, Workers Union on Saturday, Mr J. Fisher presided over a large attendance. The chief business of the meeting was the question of finding employment for men who have completed work at the aerodrome, an ( | a. deputation was appointed tij meet the Engineer on the matte r. It was decided to circularise all local secretaries in reference to the formation of a District Counci;’, and So request, the head office to gve information in regard t<o the matter. Discussion took place on the question of the delay in payment of compensation, and it was decided to take the matter up with those responsible. The meeting decided to sponsor a movement for the setting up of ti Vigilance Committee for Hie district. Yesterday the deputation appointed by tho meeting waited on the Engineer, who advised that the Public Works Department would assist in securing other work for thc men <Ts placed frpm the aerodrome. The Engineer indicated that A 1! local jobs had sufficient labour requirement;' but it was hoped to get new works ready at an early date. Te'egrams were forwarded to Mr A Cook (secretary N.ZAV.U.) and Mr J. O’Brien, AT.P., advising them of the position. Th© Deputation also interviewed the State Placement Officer, wh.o promised to give consideraton to cases of hardship, and made arrangements for the stand-doiwn week. To avoid delay it was necessary for all men to register with the State Placement Office.
