AUCKLAND RECEPTION Great Enthusiasm (Per Press /Association). AUCKLAND, October 19. There were scenes of intense enthusiasm this afternoon when the citizens of Auckland paid homage at a- civic reception to Miss Jean -Batten. The building was taxed to its fullest capacity, with thousands outside. The famous aviatrix was accorded a royal reception. As she was escorted up the aisle of the Town Hall, the great audience rose and' cheered wildly, and again when a beautiful bouquet was presented on the stage. There was a large array of officials. The Mayor, Mr Davis, announced that Miss Jean Batten’s name was to be perpetuated by naming a new city street after her. The announcement was loudly cheered. Rt. lion. Al. J. Savage’s speech of commendation of Aliss Batten was relaved bv telephone from Wellington. Other speakers were Hon. Air Mason (on behalf of the Government), Squad ron Leader Isitt (Air Force) Rear Admiral Drummond (fur the Navy), and Air F. 11. Batten, the father of. Aliss Batten.

The following telegram has been sent bv the Mayor gif Greymouth, Mr W. Al el-drum, to' Aliss Jean Batten:— “Citizens of Greyniouth otter you heat tiest congratulations Ou completion of your wonderful flight. We all admit e vour splendid skill and coinage, W. Meldrum. Alayor." Al’ss Batten sent the following telegram in reply: I sincerely thank you for vour kind congratulatory message which I greatly appreciate. —.lean BatThe West. Coast United Aero Club sent the following telegram to Alias Batten: “Congratulations on your meritorious flight.” Aliss Batten’s reply was tis follows: “I was deeply moved by your congratulatory message, for which ?. sincerely thank you.” MRS. MOLLISON TO RACE. PARTS. October 18. Amy Mollison is here seeking an aeroplane, wherein to compete in the New York-Paris race in 1937. She says that a plane is unobtainable in England, where all the constructionists are busy with Royal Air Force orders. U.S.A. JOURNALISTS’ GLOBE CIRCUIT. HONOLULU. October 18. Mr Ekins is due at San Francisco at noon to-day and expects to breakfast in Now York to-morrow. The China clipper arrived at Cavite Harbour yesterday. Air Kiernan and Miss Killgallen are among the passengers.
