A London cable announced the death of Madame Albanesi (Effie Henderson.) She married Le Chevalier Carlo Albanesi who died in 1926. She wrote numerous novels.

Air A. F. Parfitt, of the Post and Telegraph Department. Invercargill, arrived yesterday on a short visit to his mother, Airs C. Parfitt, sent'.. Tainui Street, and will attend the Grey Alain School Jubilee celebrations.

In recognition of hospitality during his recent visit, the King has conferred the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George on King George of Greece. It is the first decoration conferred by King Edward on another monarch.

A Alelbourne cablegram stated that after forty-two years’ service with the “Argus” and the “Australasian”, during the last, sixteen years of which he held the position of general manager, Air A. C. C. Holz, has commenced a long leave of absence before his retirement.

The death occurred at Matamata. of Mr Albert Ernest Trufit Pickering, aged 52. manager of the Alntamata branch of the Bank of New Zealand. He was born at Reefton. and was educated at Westport High School and at Wellington College, lie joined the Bank of New Zealand at Wellington in 1902. He was president of Matamata Orphans’ Club.

In view of her approaching marriage Miss I. Stewart, in charge of the workroom of Messrs C. Smith, Ltd., for some years, who has resigned, was farewelled by the staff of the firm and presented with a quilt. The presentation was made by the manager, Air B. B. Smith, who referred to Aliss Stewart’s ability and popularity, and wished her every success and happiness.

The parents of the pupils of Kumai'a State School, following on the recent wedding of Mrs M. J. Fahey, former teacher at the school, entertained her at a social at Trinity Hall, Kumara, and made her a presentation to mark their appreciation of her work. This consisted of an oak dinner waggon and a set of Pyrex dishes. Those present made eulogistic reference to the good qualities of Airs Fahey, both as a teacher and a citizen, and expressed the best wishes for her future happiness.

The sudden death occurred on Friday of Mr James Hay Mentiplay, the oldest, living member of tho Wellington Bowling Club, aged 78. _ He came to New Zealand from Chile, when about seven. Later he joined the Bank of Australasia, and then the Bank of New Zealand. He was President of the Wellington Bowling Club in 19O'» and J9lO, and Secretary from 1,896 to 1902. He was formerly stationed sit Westport.

The death took place yesterday morning at. the Christchurch Hospital if Mrs Kathleen Robinson, formerly

of Greymoutli. Deceased, who was a daughter of Airs N. Robin, and a native of Nelson Creek, was aged 29 years. She had resided in Greymouth up till 12 months ago, when Constable Robinson was transferred to Christchurch. Deceased is survived by her husband and three young children, the youngest being only six weeks old. She is also survived, in addition to her mother by one, sister Mrs AV. Ward, and two brothers, Messrs AVilliam find David Robin, all of whom reside in Greynioulli. Me.'dames Robin and Ward and'Mr w. Robin left yesterday morning for Christchurch,
