MOTOR VICTIMS
WOMEN INJURED. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, October 19. Dliss Agnes Wakel'm, of 73 Junction Road, llalswell, had one leg crushed and the other fractured when she jumped off a moving truck at Halswell, at about 9 o’clock on Saturday evening. The accident was caused by the truck passing over her when she fell. Her condition at the Public Hospital last evening was reported to be satisfactory. AUCKLAND, October 19. Concussion and head injuries were suffered by Miss Violet Thomas, waitress, 34. Auckland, as the result of a motor collision, on Eden Terrace late on Saturday afternoon. She was s'tting in a parked small ear, when it was struck by a lai get ear. The small c ar was turned completely round and' over, coining to rest on the hood. Miss Thomas was taken to the hospital bv ambulance. Another occupant of the small ear, a man, was slightly injured, but wa-s not admitted to the hospital. The other ear came to rest on the footpath, both front wheels being broken. The motorist was arrested later, and appeared at the Police Court this morning. He was Henry Thomas Hansen, 30. deser'bed as a labourer and seaman, and was charged with being in a state of intoxication while in charge ol a motor-car. Sub-Inspector Fox asked for a remand till Friday. He said that Hansen at present was on bail. £;>o and self £5O. He asked that if the ba wore renewed it should be conditional on reporting to the police daily. The woman was injured seriously although her condition was reported today to be improving somewhat. Mr Hunt granted the remand anrenewed bail. He ordered Hansen to report to the police twice daily.
