REEFTON TOURNEY, (Ou r Own Correspondent). REEFTON, October 18. The .Reefton Boxing Association held a. very successful tournament. at the Reef ton Gymnasium on Saturday night. AU the bouts were hardfought, and some verv inteiesting fights resulted. A special bout between T, Hoggarth of Wallsend and N. Thurlow, of Westport, was a wonderful exhibition, the 'decision going to Thurlow, alter a very '-lose contest. Thurlow won the tight by his forcing tactics in (lie last two rounds, but lloggarth was pathei unlucky in that he fought very clean and fast under a seven pound handicap. ■ • -c The medal for the most seientitir boxer was won by T. Coulson, of Waiuta; and the trophy for the most prom'sing schoolboy wns awarded to E. Williams, of Reefton, while a special trophy was won by E. Nelson, and another special trophy, by Trevor Holmes, of Waiuta. Air G. Talbot has donated a medal fop competition among Waiuta boys, to be awarded to the most, scientific boxer. Air Laurie O'Neill, of Westport, acted as judge. In a most capable manner. The bouts, each of three one-minute rounds, resulted as follows: — Jim Smith (Waiuta) 3.11. beat. F. IPascoc (Waiuta) -1.9- This was a very willing fight. Roth boys trading punches throughout the fight. This fight was the tit bit of the evening. the decision was a draw. Wm. Gilroy (Reefton) 9.1. beat PHurley (Tnangahua Junction) 9.6; Moth (Wallsend) 10.5 beat. Jones (Tinangahua Junction) 10.4. The la*-, ter was a stirring fight, the boxers

The bout opened tamely, the boxers feeling their way. with lloggarth showing up the better. The second round opened up with a good exchange of two-handed fighting. Hoggarth, boxing confidently used a strafUlt left- to -advantage as the round and did good work with u- right '-ross. Round thri'e produced some, thrilling exchanges, and after a torrid encounter, Thurlow was .showing signs of Hoggart h’s heavy punishing blows. Round four was another torrid one. the boxers tr-ading hard punches. Thurlow livened up in this round, showing to the better advantage of the pair. Referee O’Neill’s decision to Thurlow had a mixed reception.
