(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON. October 17. Attacks on Wellington residents .have been made on two occasions recently, by unidentified men. The first instance occurred at Roseneath, where a woman who was walking along a well-lighted; right-of-way, was struck on the head with a piece of wood. Her assailant seized he r handbag and escaped. A Chinese fruiterer, Lucy Guy, .is the latest victim. He was approached by two men in his shop in Pirie Street, and asked for .an order of vegetables. When he turned away from the counter he was struck a violent blow on the head with some implement. He called for help, and his attackers escaped. Six weeks’ imprisonment was imposed on John James MeCorquodale, aged forty-one a sales manager, who was convicted yesterday of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car. His driving license was cancelled and he was disqualified from obtaining another for a year from Maj" 31 next. The case was ono in which the medical evidence differed, but the Magistrate said that there was no real conflict. .as there was definite evidence that the accused’s condition improved during the period between the first and second examinations. In lt'27. ihe accused was fined £25 for the same offence, and in 1930, £l5. Security for appeal was lodged.
