Buller Cup Final OLD BOYS SCRAPE HOME. (Ou r Own Correspondent). WESTPORT, October IS. The final match of the season, bebwc.oai Rangers and O ! d Boys, on Saturday, playej on Saturday at Westport, was nearly productive of a surprise in the Albion Cup series of matches. The country side had had only one fixture” in tiyi and was given Kittle chance of defeating the wel'l-balainced town players. Rangers adopted tactics which just, failed to prove .successful, and they were only finally beaten by the conversion of a try. Orman hooked repeatedly, and the visiting- forwards were impressive. The Old Boys backs iwe.rc the deciding factor. In the first half. Fox scored a try for Rangers' and Jost a try for Old Boys, which Stewart converted. The final score in a. ding-dong game was five points to 'three. WESTPORT TEAM AT HOKITIKA. The football match. Westport Star juniors and Hokitika Kiwi juniors, played on Cass Square on Saturday, -ended in Kiwis scoring 14 ppints to Stars’ 9. Mr Agnew was referee. {BLAKETOWN CLUB’S BANQUET. The; Blaketown Rugby Football Club wound up the 1936 season with a banquet in the Blaketown Hall on 'Saturday night, and Mr S. Batchelor presided over an attendance of over sixty members and visitors. An enjoyable evening was spent, the usual ■toasts being honoured, whilst items were rendered by Messrs G. Brown x R. Bunt, and J. Elder (duet), IV. Galley (mouth organ solo). McHcrron (cornet solo), J. Faulkner (recitation), E. Price. The music was supplied by Williams’ Orchestra. The following toasts were honoured: “The King’’; <r VVes‘t Coast Rugby Union” (proposed by the chaernian. and rouponded to by Messrs T. O’Donnell and W. Williams): “Referees” (Mr J. E. Joyce—Mr R. Bunt); “Blaketoiwn Teams” (Mr W. G. Scott — Messrs M. Olsen,. G>. Brown. J. Panther); “Sister Clubs and Kindred Sports” (Mr J. E. Joyce—Messrs W. Williams. Stars; T. O’Donnell. Celtic: D. Wylde, Yachting Club; E. Price, Swimming Club); “Vice-Presidents” (Mr E- Furness l —Messrs J. E. Joyce, W. Addison and J. Faulkner); “ Artusfq. Ladies, and Press” (Mr E Price —Mr I. E'der): “The President” (Mr F. McEnaney—Mr W. G. 'Scott). During the evening, the cup donated by Mr W. Capley for the most improved -senior, player during the sea-so-n was presented to Mr A. Scandretf.
Mr W. Scott paid a tribute to club i members in clearing the club of it:
