BLACKBALL NOTES

(Ou r Own Correspondent). A meeting of the local branch of the New Zealand Workers’ Union was held’ in the Aliners’ Hall on Sunday last.. Air R. Mountford presiding over a large attendance. Mr W. Coppersmith, General Organiser for the West Coast, was present and addressed rhe meeting at length on the position of the affiliated bodies on the Coast as also on the policy of the organisation as a whole. Air Coppersmith received, a splendid hearing and at the elose of his address, answered various questions in a satisfactory manner.

A meeting of the Picnic Committee was held last Sunday. While nothing of consequence falls to be reported, the business being purely routine, the publie can rest assured that everything is being done to ensure the usual good t’me on Cass Square on picnic day.

The Blackball Caledonian Society’s Pipe Band travels to Christchurch this week-end. to try conclusions with other bands from various parts of the South Island, who assemble at the Canterbury capital to-day (Saturday) to take part in the Competitions being run by the Canterbury and' District Association. A full muster of bandsmen is making the trip, and it is to be hoped that they will give a good account of themselves. Air James Brownlie, Sydenham, was a visitor to Blackball last week-end. spending a hol'day with Air and Airs Dick Clark, Aloonlight Rond, Airs J. Aitken of Christchurch, who has been on a holiday visit to Air and Airs Park. Aloonlight Road, has returned to her home. Aliss Reta Park. Aloonlight Road, is at present spending a holiday in Christchurch. Air n. Jennison. who underwent an operation in the Grey Hospital during this week, is reported to be getting on splendidly. Mrs Alary Jennison. who has been on an extended health holiday in Christchurch, has returned to her home much benefited by the change. Aliss’Jean Clark, for long in the service of Hill and Coy., general drapers, Blackball, left last week to toko, up a situation as nurse in the V estland Mental Hospital. Her manv friends will join in wishing her eveiy success in her chosen career. Airs Jennison, senr., is at present spending a holiday with her son and daughter-in-law, Air and Airs H.
