The accused pleaded not guilty, and' elected to be dealt with summarily. Counsel for the prosecution, Mr H. J. Mac Alister, said that the accused interviewed debenture holders, and persuaded' them to part with their debentures in exchange for shares in the McArthur Trust, the bait being £lO5 of shares for £lOO of debentures. He visited people in their houses, and thereby committed a breach of the law. Counsel for the defence, M r A. C. Hanlon, submitted that there was no evidence that the accused had gone from house io house selling shares. The rights or wrongs of the McArthur Trust, transactions had no bearing on the case. The Magistrate reserved his decision, bail being fixed at £2OO.
