ITALIAN WINS 60,000 DOLLARS. WORLD’S SEVEREST TEST. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received October 16 at 9.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, Octooer 15. The Italian motorist, Tazio Nuvolari, driving an Alfa Romeo ear, won the three hundred miles George Vanderbilt Cup race, the prize for which is sixty thousand dollars. Nuvolari’s time was four hours thirty-two minutes 44.04 seconds. His average speed was 66.90 miles an hour. The Frenchman, Wimille, was second taking twelve seconds more than Nuvolari. An Italian, Brevio, was third, and a Frenchman, Sommer, came fourth. Pat Fairfield, of England, won fifth place. The Australian, McEvoy, was originally placed fifth, but has now been placed sixth. The scorers explained there was an error, because of a rush to record the finish. This race has inaugurated the million dollar Roosevelt race. The course was a twisting four-mile road. This the first race of the kind in America. It is considered the most severe test of man and car in the world.
