The adjourned inquest concerning the death of Isabella Alaekie Booth” marr.ed, who died iu the hospital on September 22nd, was concluded this morning, with the medical evidence. Ihe Coroner said that deceased' was very secretive, and kept her counsel. Howover, she made one sigutfleant remark: “p have a guilty conscience.” He found that death was due to generalised peritonitis, following an infection due to an unlawful interference by some person unknown, to induce abortion. The Coroner added that the conduct of the medical men concerned had been i-errular throughout CHRISTCHURCH, October 15. Mrs E, Galbraith, of 57 Sherborne Street. St. Albans, was found dead at her home, to-day, hanging in a woodshed. The discovery was made by a visitor. Airs Galbraith’s husband', who is a painter, was away at the time. WELLINGTON. October 15. AI r W. 11. Freeman, S.AL, has been appointed a commissioner to enquire into, and report on. whether the Southland Hospital District and the Wallace and Fiord Hospital District should be reconstructed to form one hospital district according to a notice published in the Gazette to-night.

TIMARU, October 15. A verdict that death was due to suffocation because of injuries to his throat, caused when the car he was dr'ving struck the post of a gate, was returned by the Coroner, Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., who conducted the inquest into the death of John Smith Innes, of Mackenzie Country. David Urquhart, run-holder at S reamlands, gave evidence that he had found Innes after hearing him call, knocking at the wall of his house ami calling out “Good-bye, David.” “His ear had struck the left gate post at Streamlands and rebounded back 'ts own length.” Constable A. Mackintosh, of Fairlie, said the mishap was due to the brakes of the ear being affected by water and because Innes, when applying the brakes, pressed the accelerator at the -ante time. By a clause in a will, the body of Colonel Allen Bell is to be cremated and the ashes scattered to the winds from Cape Reinga, without ceremony or spoken words by clergy or others. He also expressed the desire that no ceremony of any kind takes place after his death, in carrying out the cremation or the disposal of the ashes. WELLINGTON, October 16. The House met at 10 a.in. Reporting on the petition of an elderly soldier’s widow, who sought a pension, Mr Lyon, Chairman of the Defence Committee, said the Committee was of the opinion that owing to the number of cases of elderly widows in distressed circumstances coming before it, the Committee recommended the plight of such widows should be considered by the Government when dealing with the coming national superannuation scheme. Mr .Polson said the petitioner's husband although both wounded and gassed in war. could not prove a-ttributability. Members of rhe Lansdowne School Committee complained bitterly at their meeting last night of the constant changes that took place in the teaching staffs of schools.
