AIRWAYS NOTES
NEWS OF THE AIR FROM ALL QUARTERS. Figures made available by the Indian Authorities show that 10,500,000 letter were sent by air from Great Britain to India during 1935. This compared with 6,000.000 in 1934, and 4,000,000 in 1933.
During the most recent twelvemonthly period for which figu’res are available, the air-liners of Imperial Airways flew a- total distance of 5,000, 000 miles, this comparing with approximately 3,000.000 miles for a previous period of 12 months. A full aerodrome lighting equipment is installed at Penang air-port. This lighting system comprises three floodlights, aerodrome boundary-marking lights, obstruction lights, and an illuminated wind “T”.
Figures which have just become available show that eight of the veteran pilots of Imperial Airways have, between them, now spent a total of 83,506 hours up in the air. These eight Air Captains, with thei r respective figures fo r flying hours are:— O. iP - . Jones 11,938 hours, W. Rogers 11,189, H. H. Horsey 11105, A. B. H. Youell 10,181, H. H. Perry (over) 10,000, F. Dismore 9,919, A. S. Wilcockson 9,798. L. A. Walters 9,376. These figures fo r hours aloft, if turned into approximately figtires for distance flown, indicate that the eight veteran air captains have flown a total of nearly 10,000,000 miles.
