ARIA CONTEST

MELBOURNE, October 9. Though he was unplaced in the "Sun” Aria contest, Mr Raj' Trewern, of New Zealand, won high praise from the Sun Newspapers musical critic for his rendering of "0 Paradiso” from Meyerbeer’s “La Frieana.” The critic says: ‘‘He won attention from the outset by the smoothness of his phrases an.i his ability to soar with ease. His singing was accompanied by dramatic action, aud gesture, all tones having similar aptness and legitimacy. The contest was won by Miss Sylvia Fisher, of South Melbourne. Mr Charles Lomas, of Geelong, was second.
