FISHERMEN’S STRIKE

AUCKLAND MERCHANTS’ ATTITUDE. AUCKLAND, October 13. Wholesale fish merchants met this morning to consider proposals from the seine boat fishermen, who are demanding 2d per lb. for all schnapper delivered into the Auckland market. After consideration. wholesale merchants, who were unanimous, offered IJd per lb. for all schnapper and terakihi as a temporary measure only, pending the setting up of a Government commission. As the fish merchants’ offer has not been accepted by the fishermen, the merchants have requested the Government to set up the commission, and to treat the matter as urgent. Meantime the vessels will remain idle.
