ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY

SPLENDID CONCERT. The Grcrvmouih Orchestral Society’s second concert was presented at the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. It has been the sum of this society to bring music of a high standard before the public, and Tuesday night’s performance was no exception. Under the baton of Mr S. A. N. Sullivan, the orchestra of some 2(1 members gave an excellent programme, fuby meriting a larger audience. Mr Sullivan is to be congratulated on his .society’s tine effort, and he may resit assured that his next concert will be eagerly awaited by the public. The programme opened W'th the overture “Orpheus in the Underwori’d.” Th’s overture by .T. Offenbach owes it or'ig n to Greek mythology, and although mmeiwhat serious wa.s well played by the orc'iesfra, and earned prolonged applhusc.
