CIRCING THE GLOBE
U.S.A. Journalists LORD ROTHERMERE’S CHALLENGE. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received October 14, at 9.50 p.m.) MANILA, October 14. Lord Rothermere is visiting Manila. He states he is willing to bet one million dollars that his newspapers would beat any record established by the three American journalists who are circling the world in an effort to complete their tour in three weeks. They are Miss Dorothy Kilellen, of the Hearst Newspapers Ltd.; Mr H. Ekins, of the Scripps Howard Newspapers, and Mr Leo Kiernan, of lhe North American Newspaper Alliance. Mr Ekins (Scripps Howard Newspapes) is leading,, in the race. He took off from the Cavite Naval Base for Guam this morning, aboard the Hawaii Clipper ’plane, en route for Hie Wake and Midway Islands. Honolulu, San Francisco and New York. Miss Kilgiallen (Hearst Newspapers) and Leo Kiernan (North American Newspaper Alliance) are aboard the steamer “President Pierce.” She is expected to arrive at Manila in time to reach the China Clipper ’plane, which is leaving foj Guam on Friday. Meantime Lauren Lyman (North American Newspaper Alliance) is flying in the China Clipper ’plane to-day from' Wake Island, en route for Guam. It. is expected that the two Clippers will land at Guam together to-night.
