ONEHUNGA BLAZE

HEAVY DAMAGE AT TANNERY. AUCKLAND. October 13. An outbreak of fire commenced shortly before eleven o’clock to-night in the fellmongery of AV. Sutherland and Coy. Ltd’s, tannery at Onehunga. Fanned by a light breeze the flames quickly spread through the wooden building, which contained stores of wool, hides and leather. These were destroyed. An estimate of the loss could not be given, but it is known to be considerable. The building, which was 4000 square feet in area, was blazing fiercely when three fire engines arrived. The reflection of the Hames could be seen for many miles, and hundreds of people arrived to watch the efforts of the firemen.

The fire was still blazing at midnight.
