GREY CLUB’S MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Gu',y mouth Lawn Tennis Club lasi evening Dr. 11. S. Ray presided over a fair attendance of members. The balance sheet showing a eie.dii. of £9 9s Id was read and adopted. The secretary (Air A. .Dyhrberg), in his annual report staled:-— I have much pleasure in presenting the following report for the season. 1935-36. The Club membership main-tained-the same strength as that of the previous season and the number of regular players increased. Membership was as follows: Ladies 40. men 32, junuiors 7. honorary 10; total 89. Early in the season a scheme for encouraging more junior members was inaugurated and seven junior members were admitted at a sub of ss. Several of the junior members showed exceptional promise and anything that wo do in this direction will. I am sure, be 'veil worth while. Courts; The Club courts were in good order throughout the season but the committee decided to have the top-dressing put in hand before the. commencement of the 1936-37 season in order to avoid any risk ot permanent damage by leaving the work for another season. The work has been carried out as expeditiously as possible, considering the weather conditions, and appears to be a first class job. The courts should not need attention for at least five years, us compared with three years if coal-tar had been -used. Alatehes: Alatehes were played during the season with the other district clubs and the A team maintained an unbeaten record in all their matches. The B team won the matches played against United and Hokitika anil lost to Runanga. The men’s A team were successful in capturing the President’s trophy from the holders. Hokitika, and we hope to be able to hold the trophy during the coming season. A series ol Yankee tournaments was held during the season and proved very enjoyable. The club championships held towards the. end of the season resulted as follows: Ladies, championship. Miss Al. Costello - runner-up. Airs Cheyne. Men s championship. E. Pattinson; runnerup. W. Ashby. These matches were rather protracted due to bad weather and we hope to be able to start them earlier this year. Finance: The balance sheet will be presented by the treasurer, and shows the club to be in a very satisfactory position financially. Expenditure on afternoon tea and balls hal been considerably reduced and in spite of the heavy expenditure on fences and courts we should begin the season with a small credit balance. As these expenses are not. recurring there should be a substantial credit at the end of this season. During the season the club suffered the loss of several prominent members and we extend our best wishes to them in their new surroundings. On the ladies’ side " e have lost Aliss Hopkins and Aliss Alotvatt, and on the men’s side Mr M. C. Smith, Mr J. Campbell and Mr T. Curran. In conclusion I think that the Grey Club has cause to congratulate itself upon, its sound financial position and I am sure that we are all looking forward to another very enjoyable and successful season.

The presiilent staled that the courts were being top-dressed and this would cost approximately £lB. At the cud of the season, the club should be in a good position. Resignations from membership were forwarded by Mr F. A. Kitchingham and Mr and Mrs G. Jamieson. The president stated that Mr Kitchingham was one of the oldest membets of* the club, and one, of its keenest players, whilst he. had done more for the club than any other member. On his motion Mr Kitchingham was elected a life member of the dub. The other resignations were accept® with regret. , New members elected were Mrs L. Abbie. Miss Alary McDonnell and Miss C. Ak-Kniglit. The election of officers resulted: — President, Dr 11. S. Ray (re-elected); Secretary, Mr A. Dyhrberg (re-elect-ed); Treasurer, Air 11. Dodson (reelected): Men's Committee, Messrs F.. Pattiiu-ou, O. Cheyne. N. Hodgkiss and A. Baird; Club Captain. Air E. Ratlin son; Ladies’ Committee, Mesdames C. ft. Moss, W. Fletcher, A. J. Wilson, L. D. McGlashan and Aliss Costello; De-

Jceales to W.C.L.T.A. and Greymouth Sub-Association, Messrs O. Cheyne and E. Pattinsoii. Opening dav -was fixed for Saturday, October 31. It «.-is derided that it be a re'-om meiidation to the iiiioming committer, that the ladder be closed for those not wishing ,o play during the period, for a fortnight at t.'hcist mas time, dating from December 22. •
