Whiter Thompson Handicap: After being well placed Pol Luck pm in his claim over the last two furlongs, and easily defeated Marie Celeste, some distance away being Rongomai and the favourite Reporter. The racing at Methven improved Pot Luck. He looked much brighter, and put a lot more vim into his effort than on Hie previous Saturday. Marie Celeste covered the two miles a| a sound pace and beat the rest of the lield most decisively. Reporter disappointed his admirers, and was easily beaten out of a place. Isabel D'erby ami Golden Direct both failed to stay. Aristotle broke when Hinder pressure. while Noble IPrinee. Village Guy ami Agile raced a longwav below their best form.

A Brilliant ,Three-year-old: The New Zealand Sapling Stakes winner P-a risienne was seen in a favourable light in the Summer Handicap liv giving age and a beating to her twenty five opponents. The daughter of .Rev de Oro ami Yenot is steadily on the improve, and is certain to make her presence felt in the Derby at Addington next month. Ruth Logan staged a come-back, by finishing second. It. was her best race io date. An outsider in Adsum, was third and Purveyor fourth. In A Good Mood: The Meth ven-trained Willow Wave was on his best behaviour, and in an interesting contest he won the Avon Handicap from Llewellyn’s Pride, Supertax and Recess. The son of A\ averley was not- in demand, and paid a nice double figure dividend. S : upertlix' was subjoct to interference. With a clear run he might have done belter. Rey Spec did not begin smartly while Frances Lincoln. Gunfire ami Queen Author were all beaten for speed.

A Pleasing Display: Little -Beta, owned and trained by E. C. McDermott, gave her supporters no anxious moments in the New Brighton Handicap. She maintained a solid gait throughout, and showed improvement to the extent of 9sec. •Sandy N, ‘Torn !)6 yards, beat all but lhe winner, and paid a useful place dividend. Lady Sonoma (R. Townley) and Guy Hugo were always amongstthe leaders. King’s Guard made up most of his handicap, and at the end of twelve furlongs looked a possib.lity but- he failed to stay. Of the others Ruin made the best showing.

Second AlPPdarance: Marie Celeste made amends for her defeat in the Walter Thompson Handicap by giving the majority of those engaged in the Beach Handicap a start and a beating. Subsidy again raced consistently to finish second, with Gamble, fully extended, third in front of a. bunched field.

Saddle Horses: "With the weight, up Happy Knight wus seen to advantage in the I'aieweli Hand'.'-ap. He began quickly and covered the journey in 2min 11 lusec a smart performance. Admiral \\ rack showed a return by beating all but the winner with Symmetry close up third.

Trotting Cup Candidates: Several horses engaged in the New Zealand Trotting Cup were seen in action at New Brighton on Saturday but, as expected none of them was forward enough tlo flatter admirers. Indianapolis and Harold Logan gave away JOS yds. in the Avon Handicap (Both looked big and well, and finished some sixty yards behind the placed division. Worthy Light looked as if he wanted racing Io sharpen him up. Little I’ault could lie found' with the condition of War Buoy and Graham Direct. Neither was at. his best, as they broke when extended, their efforts being much below what might be expected of this class of horse. Gamble contested the Beach Handicap and finished third. He was driven by his trainer, M. B. Edwards who has not been seen in the sulky for some time.

The son of Jack Potts paced a good race and from 60 yards behind was by no means disgraced, losuig none of his admirers. His next outing will be Oaniuru. Interested Spectators:
