THE WEATHER
WELLINGTON, October 12. The weather report and forecast arc as follows:— General situation; The last of the recent series of westerly depressions passed eastwards during Sunday night, but a secondary one has siuee developed., the centre of which is located west of the Cook Strait area to day. An anticyclone covers Australia, and extends on to the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds variable at first in the southern half of the South Island; otherwise southerly winds prevailing, force moderate to strong, but. decre-as-1 n IISeas in New Zealand waters; Rather rough to rough north of Farewell Spit, ntid between Banks Peninsula and Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong, but decreasing southerly winds; seas moderate to rather rough. Weather: Cold and unsettled, with scattered and nia’nly light rain, but heavy falls are probable in parts of the central districts, and snow on some of the ranges. Conditions are improving grtidirallj’ to-morrow, however, in most districts.
