STRIFE IN ENGLAND Position of the Jews CONFLICTS IN CITIES. (Ans. & NZ. Cable Assn.) LONDON. October 11. A gang of youths smashed the windows of fifteen Jewish tradesmen in the Mile End Road, in East London, before the arrival of a bus load of policemen. AVith red flags and banners, Communists shouting “Smash Fascism,” “ Down with War. ” conducted what was described as a victory march from Tower Hill through the East End. They encountered trouble at Victoria Park, where among the waiting crowd, hundreds of hands rose up in the Fascist salute. Fifty young men, shouting “Up with Fascism” charged into the procession, pulled down a banner, knocked down two escorting policemen. A great fight followed for Hie possession of the banner. A squad of police charged with batons. Several arrests were made. A man staggering from the crowd, with his face bleeding, said that he had been slashed with a razor. Several other cuts were attended to by ambulance officials. The Communists held three meetings. The whole of the Liverpool mounted police, and a thousand on loot, were engaged during a Fascist march through the centre of the city. It is estimated that a crowd of fifty thousand lined the route. There were angry scenes at several points. A Fascist flagbearer was hit on the head with a stone. The police in Lime Street drew batons and made many arrests. Right of Speech Denied SIR O. MOSLEY’S COMPLAINT. (Received October 12. at 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 12. Sir Oswald Mosley, speaking at. the Liverpool meeting, after the Fascist procession, complained of the organised attempt being made throughout the country to deny the Fascists the right of speech. Sir Oswald was asked what the Fascist attitude was towards the Jews. He replied: “Those who put the interests of Jewry before the interests of Britain, will have to get out!” London Jew Baiters LOOT 25 SHOPS. (Received October 12, at 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 12. There have been further East End demonstrations against the Jews. One .lew-baiting gang wrecked and looted twenty-five shops of Jews in Mile End Road. The gang attacked Samuel Jelen, a hairdresser, who was standing at his shop door. Thej threw him through the window of u nearby shop, and hurled a little girl on top of hiim_ Jelen took the little girl to safety. The gang went off shouting “Hail Alosley! Down with the Yids!” Fourteen were arrested.
