ARBITRATION COURT

Westport Sitting (Special to ‘ ‘Argus.’’) WESTPORT. October 12. A sitting of the Arbitration Court was held at- Westport, to-day, His Honour, Mr Justice E. Page, presiding. Associated with him were Messrs A. L. Monteith (employees’ assessor) and W. Cecil Prime (employers’ assessor). The only case for decision was a claim under the Workers’ Compensation Act, 1922. made by Theo. Penrose against Thomas Thompson, in respect of the Joss of the sight an eye as I lie le-ult of an injury received by plaintiff whilst employed on defendant's farm.

The facts were admitted and the only question for the Court was the assessment of the amount of damages, the amount of assessing the basis of wages for farm hands being involved. Mr IT. Lovell appeared .for plaintifl’ and defendant wtis represented by Air 11. D. Acland, of Christchurch. After hearing argument on the matter, the Court assessed compensation at £260 16s Bd, anil allowed costs £8 8s to plaintiff.
