Silver Ring’s Success TAPESTRY BEATS PHAR LAP’S TIME. (Received October 11 at 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 11. The weather was warm, the attendance was twenty-four thousand, and the track was in good order for the final day of the A.u.C. spring meeting held at Randwick on Saturday. The Limond colt, Only One, who showed a lot of pace in the Cauonbury Stakes, would have troubled the winner, but he ran greenly in the final stages. The Night Raid filly Nightingale, finished with a great dash to secure second prize. Tapestry, the winner of the YYityerley Handicap, lowered Phar Lap’s Randwick record for a similar distance by 2;J seconds, and equalled the Australian and New Zealand record, standing to the credit of New Zealy’.d’s iron horse. First Acre, which was established al Flemington in November, 1930. Silver Ring was content to allow Oro and Lough Neagh to make the pace in the Randwick Plate. He joined the leaders turning for home, and continuing his run, went on to gain a comfortable victory by three-quarters of a length. The stewards reprimanded Jockey A. E. Ellis for allowing Silver Ring to veer in sharply when passing Lough Neagn in the straight. The Final Handicap provided the most exciting finish of the day s sport. Nearing the distance, seven horses were fighting out the finish, when On Parade, coming with a brilliant run from the rear of the field, snatened the victory by half a head. Waverley Handicap—Tapestry 7-2 (Duncan) 1; Soft Step 8.3 (Coutts) 2; Satmoth 7.12 (Hickey) 3. Rogerio was the only other starter. Won by U lengths; three. Time 2.56?.. 'Chester Handicap—Canegrass 9.3 (Shean) 1; Heroic Faith 9.0 (Knox) 2; Disalto 9.1 (Webster) 3. Fourteen started, including II Duce, Capris and Stalin. Won by a neck; half a length. Time 1.121. Randwick Plate—Silver Ring 9.4 (Ellis) 1; Oro 9.7 (Webster) 2; Lough Neagh 9.4 (Shean.) 3. The only starters. Won by three-quarters of a length; a neck. Time 3.31 j. Clibborn Stakes—Mark Anthony 8.7 (Cook) 1; Bobby 8.7 (Maher) 2; Tonga 8.7 (Knox) 3. Niue started, including Ilium. Won by a length; half. Time 1.37. Final Handicap—On Parade 7.12 (Hickey) 1; Auto Box 8.8 (Shean) 2; -(fabulist 8.8 (Jones) 3. Twelve started. Won by half a head; same. Time 2.4. SILVER RING FOR MELBOURNE. SYDNEY. October 11. Silver Ring, despite lameness, is going to Melbourne early next week. It is doubtful whether he will start in the Caulfield Cup, but according to his trainer, J. Stewart, he is a certain starter in the Melbourne Cup. Darov Munro has been engaged to lido Gay Blonde in the Caulficd Cup. Cabalist has been sold for .India.
