RUNANGA NOTES
BOROUGH COUNCIL. (Our Own Correspondent.) The ordinary meeting of the Runanga Borough Council wa. s held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr R. McTaggart)i, Crs. Duggan. Oakley. Pendlebury, Rutherford., Kennedy and MeTeague. A deputation from the Runanga Tennis C’ub, comprising Mrs C O’Neill, Miss Madge Tyson, Mes'-r.-R. Murray and K. Southward, asked for a piece -of la«d °n the Kotare bo main to construct two new com i s The deputation .stressed the point, that the club’s present courts were imt up :to standard insofar as that they wer<too small, and did not comply w-.th requirements in any way. _ .Moreover, with the increased membership H was necessary to provide additional plaving areas? The Tennis Club, members were subject to a deal ot crrticium by various councillors as to their previous method of admin'stra tion. and were asked what they would do to help towards an improvement. The State School Committee wiote asking for the metalling of entranee to 'gates in Duncan Street.-The request was granted. , Mr J. Medlin wrote asking that attention be given to a drain that Hooded his property. It was decided that the matter be attended to. Mr J. A. Kay requested that a dram be dug at the front of his property. The matter is to receive attention. The Grev Electric Power Board advised that at. present the lamps m the Borough wer“ uudereharged an I rhat the cost would be £3 5s extra per annum. —The matter was left in the hands of the Runanga representative on the Board. , Buildings permits sought were. M F. James £10; Mr Murphy, verandah £10: Mr J. Winstanley £4O; Mr Shotton’£lo; Mr Williamson £2O; Croquet Club, additions to shed. £lo.—The permits were approved. Mr F. E. Pond forwarded quotation.. for flower plants. It was decided that £2 worth of plants be procured. Messrs Stevens and Campbell, engineers, wrote re Runanga w-ater supply, stating that their firm were going into the cost, and suggesting that the other adjacent local bodies co-operate with the Runanga Borough Council with the object of supplying the wdiole of the district from Coal Creek, as there was sufficient water available to supply a population of forty-eight thousand. —Received. The Superintendent, State Mines, asked for an estimate for metalling of Herd Street. —It was suggested that the street be dragged an( i metalled and drained for the sum of £44 ss, and that 150 yards of metal be placed on tliG street. It was decided that two yards of metal be deposited at the approach to the School of Mines. The Foreman reported having dealt with 61 yards of ashes, and 92 yards of gravel. Various drains had been cleaned and sundry work completed.— Received.
