COAL DISPUTE
At Taratu Mines NEW AWARD SOUGHT (Per Press Association;. DUNEDIN. October 6. As the result of a stop-work meeting held by the miners, work at the Taratu Collieries, near Kaitangata, has been at a standstill since Mondaj morning. Under the recent legislation, these mines have been working, since July 1, under an Arbitration Court award of 1931. A few weeks ago tho Taratu Alinei.s Union applied for a new award. Among( the demands, a seven-hour day was included, and, on the consent of all parties at the Conciliation meeting on August 8, the matter was referred to the Arbitration Court. The Kaitangata Coal Company b mines are not affected by the dispute at present.
